Sweet and Saltines – Halloween Snack

A friend of mine brought this to a holiday party last year, and with one bite, I was hooked. It tastes like a delicious combo of toffee, chocolate, and a little bit of salty crunch. (Hey—in my mind, that’s the perfect Halloween snack!) And trust me. Once you’ve had this stuff, you’ll be thankful that it’s so easy to make…because you’ll be making it again. And again. And again.

Sweet and Saltines – Halloween Snack
35-40 saltine crackers—enough to line the entire bottom of a cookie sheet
1 cup of butter (2 sticks)
1 cup of packed brown sugar
1-1/2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1-1/2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie sheet (10”x15”) with foil. Spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray. Place the crackers in a single layer in rows on the foil. Next, melt the butter in a medium pan and stir in the brown sugar until it’s all melted together. Bring to a boil and after 3 minutes, pour over the crackers immediately and spread evenly with a spatula. Bake for 5 minutes, and remove the pan from the oven and turn oven off. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the crackers and place cookie sheet back in the oven from 5 more minutes, or until the chocolate chips are melted. Take the pan back out, sprinkle the nuts on top and gently press into the chocolate. Cool completely in the fridge and then break into pieces. Serve and enjoy!

This is perfect for any occasion not just as a Halloween snack—I’ve melted down some chocolate melts in different colors and served them at tailgates, birthday parties, Halloween, Christmas time…you name it! It’s the perfect sweet treat, any time of year.
